Morcote has been recognized as "Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO (World Tourism Organization)", among nearly 260 applications from over 60 countries.
On Thursday, October 19, 2023, the Mayor of Morcote, Giacomo Caratti, accepted the recognition in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, attending the official ceremony.
"Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO" is an extraordinary recognition that acknowledges the municipality's efforts towards educated and sustainable tourism, adding to a series of accolades Morcote has achieved over the years: in 2016, it won the award for "The Most Beautiful Village in Switzerland," born out of a popular contest. In the same year, Morcote became part of the "Most Beautiful Villages of Switzerland" (in Ticino, only 7 villages are recognized). Morcote is also part of the 50 Swiss locations designated as "A Beloved Place" representing the cultural and architectural diversity of our country and is part of the Federal Inventory of Swiss Settlements of National Importance to be Protected (ISOS).
